Ozone – Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to questions you might want to ask:

How do we work

Free consultation

We offer a free consultation via phone or on location, during which we will discuss your requirements.

Valuation

After the consultation we’ll provide you with a full valuation and our availability. The cost will be based on square footage, location and degree of scope.

Your Ozone Disinfection day

On the day of your Ozone Disinfection we will ask you to leave the property once the initial preparation will be finished. Ozone is harmful to humans and animals so no one should be present during the process. Our Ozone technician will be wearing the protective uniform and the mask. He won’t be staying in the property but might occasionally need the access to ensure the proper working of the equipment. The doors will be sealed with warning tape and signs. All the ventilation ducts will be closed, so other people in the building can feel safe. Safe ozone values will be monitored.

We can provide your workplace with the disinfection certificate.

How to prepare

Ozone is harmful to humans and animals. You’ll not be able to be present at the Disinfection. Our technician will set up the equipment and seal the doors. The warning signs will be visible.

You need to be prepared to leave the property and take the animals with you. Depending on the space/room you might want to remove plants, perfumes, silver, jewellery, elastic clothes and oil paintings.

We have never had an issue during any of the treatments we have conducted thus far because we take these extra precautions to avoid damage.

How long is the treatment process

Length of treatment varies. Vehicle treatments are under an hour, where a full home treatment may take longer depending on the size of your property.

For clinics, schools, nurseries, bars, waiting rooms, corridors and bathrooms that are closed during the night, ozone treatment can be scheduled at overnight, giving plenty of time for treatment and ozone destruction before the first employee enters.

Will there be a leftover ozone smell

There is often a leftover faint smell of ozone the first couple weeks following a treatment. Past clients have enjoyed this smell and describe it as clean & fresh smell, similar to that after a lightning storm or after the rain. The ozone smell will continue to fade over time.

Will there be a residue left behind

No. Ozone is a gas substance similar to oxygen and there is absolutely no residue during or after an ozone treatment.

Are ozone treatments safe

When conducted by the London Ozone trained professional, ozone treatments are very safe. Ozone has a short half life, so after the treatment time is complete, either enough time should pass for the ozone to revert to oxygen (O2), or the space should be circulated with fresh air before people and animals are reintroduced.

All substances when used incorrectly can be dangerous, and ozone is no exception. Like all oxidising gases, ozone is potentially harmful if human exposure occurs. At relatively low levels ozone can cause respiratory problems, watery eyes, headaches and dizziness. At the levels used for ozone sanitisation, exposure is dangerous and therefore the process requires careful management.

How does ozone destroy odours?

Ozone reacts with odour molecules by transferring the “extra” oxygen atom of the ozone molecule to the odour molecule, changing its composition so it no longer has the same chemical makeup. This chemical reaction is called oxidation.

In a nutshell, through the oxidation process, what was formerly an odour-causing molecule is now an entirely different compound, and therefore does not possess the odour of its preceding form. A simple example of this molecular restructuring is the addition of an oxygen atom to a molecule of H2O to form H2O2 (which is the conversion of water to hydrogen peroxide).

Does Ozone inactivate Viruses?

According to Dr. Sunnen. “Ozone has unique disinfectant properties. As a gas, it has a penetration capacity that liquids do not possess. In view of the fact that , SARS-CoV-2, MERS, and previous SARS strains persist on fomites (surfaces) for up to several days, it is suggested that ozone technology be applied to the decontamination of medical and other environments”.
